We have a court date for the Bean’s second parent adoption! It’s much sooner than we expected — July 26. I think there must have been some kind of a cancelation, because the lawyer wrote and told us we had to let her know immediately if we wanted it.
Contrary to my moodiness at the time of the home study, I’m feeling very happy and excited about this. These adoptions are pretty much pro forma in our state, so no one is going to say mean things to us. The paperwork judging us has already been submitted, so I can work on forgetting that part and just enjoy knowing that soon every state — including those we are traveling to and through in August to visit with our parents — will be required by the constitution to recognize our family as a family.
Woo! I think we will have to have a wee small party to celebrate.

Congratulations!
I’m sincerely happy for you, but also find it so frustrating that ANY family would have to go through this process.

I raise a glass to the lovely Bionic family! And to a future where fairness will be reflected in the law, for everyone..
Have fun. Xx

That is wonderful news. Congratulations. The only thing that would be better is if you were both automatically recognized as the parents.

I seriously keep reading these posts and my first instinct is always, “But why on earth is adoption involved? I know Bionic had that baby!” And then I remember the total unfairness of it all.
So glad it will all be settled soon.

yay!!
on behalf of all of us that live in those states that don’t recognize second parent adoptions, please have a BIG party to celebrate, okay? π

Absolutely. I am looking forward to a great big celebration when the Fisher-Borne case comes through and kicks a little ass for my beloved NC.

Yay! We’re looking forward to getting ours done when we get back to IL–I’ll feel much less stressed once it’s in place, even though no one we’ve run into has been anything but wonderful and polite about our (adorable, charming, perfect) baby so far. Plus, any excuse for a party is a good excuse!

Ridiculous! But still … worthy of celebrating! Not to be presumptuous, but we could trek to Brooklyn. π Sunshine loves to PARTY! We could bring some local empanadas.

WOO FUCKING HOO! I’m really glad it’s not being a source of stress, though like the others I’m saddened that you have to go through this at all. I guess time is running out for me to stake my claim as the bean’s father…better get on that.

Awesome! Since this is the way it is right now, I’m all for just ignoring the unfairness, celebrating the good side of it, and enjoying your day!

Ever glad to read this. Even if it seems silly to have to jump the legal hoops…

Stupid legal hoops to jump. I’ll make sure to raise a glass to your “newly” two-parent family when I get off of work on the 26th though!
